11th IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management
11th IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management
1 - 5 June, 2009, New York, New York, USA
"Making Management Scalable, Robust, Cost-Effective and Revenue-Generating"
http://www.ieee-im.org/
The Eleventh IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management (IM 2009) will be held on 1 - 5 June 2009 at Columbia University in New York, New York, USA. The IM series of conferences has been held in odd-numbered years since 1989 (taking turns with its sibling conference NOMS), and has established itself as the main venue for original research in the area of management, operations and control of networks, networking services, networked applications, and distributed systems. IM 2009 will build on the successes of its predecessors and serve as the primary forum for technical exchange among the research, standards, vendor and user communities in the network management field.
The symposium is sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 6.6 on Management of Networks and Distributed Systems, and by the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).
Despite the ongoing research in the last two decades, and the great improvements in management tools and systems, integrated management of networked systems is still facing many challenges. With a continued increase in connectivity and the deployment of wireless technologies, there has been a dramatic growth in the size and complexity of networked systems at the same time that reliance upon them has increased. This dependence has highlighted the need for these systems to be reliable, secure and have predictable performance characteristics.
Management mechanisms are keys to achieving these goals, but they must not add significantly to complexity and cost or the problems will be compounded. In short we need to Make Management Scalable, Robust, and Cost-effective, and to make sure it helps generate the revenue to support it.
IM 2009 will be organized into technical and application sessions, panels, and tutorials. In addition, it will feature an industrial experience track to share Practical lessons learned by the user and vendor communities, posters, and birds-of-a-feather sessions. Paper submissions will undergo a stringent review process implemented by the Technical Program Committee, which includes the most respected experts in the field. We encourage papers that break new ground or present insightful results based on experience with integrated management of networks, systems, applications and services.
Authors are invited to submit original contributions in PDF format through the IM 2009 web site. Papers must be written in English. Only original papers that have not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere can be submitted.
Self-plagiarized papers and multiple submissions will be rejected without further review. Full papers are required for review. If accepted, the maximum length of each paper will be 10 printed pages including figures in IEEE 2-column style. For samples and templates, please refer to the IM 2009 author instructions.
IM 2009 covers all areas of management, operations and control of networks, networking services, networked applications, and distributed systems.
Topics of interest that will be given special attention include:
Management Paradigms, Theories and Models
* Policy and role based management
* Theory (control, optimization, economic) for management
* Biologically inspired management systems and techniques
* Evaluation and benchmarking of management systems and technologies Role of Virtualization in network and systems management
* Managing virtual resources and services
* Information modeling in virtual environments Architectures, methods and Enabling Technologies
* Management standards and enabling technologies
* Operations and management functions
* Management of emerging networks and services Service Engineering and Operational Challenges
* Service design and quality assurance
* Service discovery and negotiation
* QoS management
Organizational Aspects of IT Service Management
* Process engineering and frameworks
* Workflow management
* Business alignment of IT service management Autonomic Computing and Self-Management
* Self-repairing distributed systems

SeNAmI 2008
1st International Workshop on Sensor Networks and Ambient Intelligence In conjuction with PDCAT'08
http://www.cs.otago.ac.nz/pdcat08
December 1-4, 2008, Dunedin, New Zealand
Call for Papers
Sensor networks is an enabling technology of Ambient Intelligence. The pervasive nature of unobtrusive sensors distributed in the environment, either embedded or transportable by mobile carriers, enables fine-grain capture of environmental or ambient information that provides the basis of intelligence for higher-order cognitive systems, i.e. systems with capabilities to perceive, reason, learn, and react intelligently to their environment. Such systems in turn are envisioned to have wide ranging applications from intelligent wildlife and building structure monitoring, to humanistic and social endeavors such as health and elderly care service provisioning.
This workshop aims to bring together researchers from academia and industry to discuss recent research and technology advances in related areas, and from such engagement to foster or stimulate innovations in cross-disciplinary designs and methodologies in the fields of both sensor networks and ambient intelligence. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Cognitive wireless sensor networks
- Cooperative and distributed sensor localization
- Context-aware reasoning and inference for sensor/RFID-based systems
- Intelligence support for sensor network management
- Sensor networking in heterogeneous wireless environments
- Sensor data fusion for ubiquitous embedded computing
- Ambient intelligence system architectures, applications, and services
- Testbed implementation and experimental trials

GridNets 2008
GridNets 2008
*************
Second International Conference on Networks for Grid Applications
Beijing, China, October 8-10, 2008
http://www.gridnets.org/
Sponsored by ICST
Technically co-sponsored by Create-Net and EU-IST
All accepted papers will be published by Springer in the ICST Lecture
Notes (LNICST) series. The proceedings will be published by Springer
and will be available both as paper-based copies and via Springerlink.
The GridNets conference series is an annual international meeting that
provides a focused and highly interactive forum where researchers and
technologists have the opportunity to present and discuss leading
research, developments, and future directions in the Grid networking
area. The goal of this event is to serve as both the premier
conference presenting best Grid Networking research and a forum where
new concepts can be introduced and explored.
Previous events in this series were: GridNets 2004 in San Jose (USA),
GridNets 2005 in Boston (USA), GridNets 2006 in San Jose (USA) and
GridNets 2007 in Lyon (France). All these events have been successful
in attracting high quality papers and a wide international
participation. From the first event through the fourth, it was known
as the GridNets Workshop affiliated with the IEEE BroadNets conference
series. From last year on, it has been offered as an independent
conference.
Grid developers and practitioners are increasingly realising the
importance of efficient network support. Entire classes of
applications would greatly benefit by a network-aware grid middleware,
able to effectively manage the network resource in terms of
scheduling, access and use. Conversely, the peculiar requirements of
grid applications provide stimulating drivers for new challenging
research towards the development of grid-aware networks.
Cooperation between grid middleware and network infrastructure driven
by a common control plane is a key factor to effectively empower the
global grid platform for the execution of network-intensive
applications, requiring massive data transfers, very fast and
low-latency connections, and stable and guaranteed transmission rates.
Large e-science projects, as well as industrial and engineering
applications for data analysis, image processing, multimedia, or
visualisation just to name a few are awaiting an efficient grid
network support. They would be boosted by a global grid platform
enabling end-to-end dynamic bandwidth allocation, broadband and
low-latency access, interdomain access control, and other network
performance monitoring capabilities.
Scope
* Network architectures and technologies for grids;
* Integration of advanced optical networking technologies into the
grid environment;
* End to end lightpath provisioning software systems and emergent standards;
* The network as a first class grid resource: network resource
information publication, brokering and co-scheduling with other
resources;
* Interaction of the network with distributed data management systems;
* Network monitoring, traffic characterisation and performance analysis;
* Inter-layer interactions: optical layer with higher layer protocols,
integration among layers;
* Experience with pre-production optical network infrastructures and
exchange points;
* Peer-to-peer network enhancements applied to the grid;
* Network support for wireless and ad hoc grids;
* Data replication and multicasting strategies and novel data
transport protocols;

by a common control plane is a key factor to effectively empower the
global grid platform for the execution of network-intensive
applications, requiring massive data transfers, very fast and
low-latency connections, and stable and guaranteed transmission rates.
Scope
* Network architectures and technologies for grids;
* Integration of advanced optical networking technologies into the
grid environment;
* End to end lightpath provisioning software systems and emergent standards;

resources;
* Interaction of the network with distributed data management systems;
* Network monitoring, traffic characterisation and performance analysis;
* Inter-layer interactions: optical layer with higher layer protocols,
integration among layers;

NVWS 2009
Workshop on Overlay and Network Virtualization (NVWS 2009)
In conjunction with the 16th GI/ITG Conference on Kommunikation in Verteilten Systemen (KiVS 2009), Kassel, Germany, March 2-6, 2009
Call for papers:
---------------
Recently, several “Future Internet” initiatives have started in Europe, the US and Asia, offering the exciting opportunity to design new approaches to supporting richer network services in a variety of scenarios and environments, such as middleboxes, IPv4-v6 interworking, p2p, and other services. These research efforts may eventually lead to an internetwork architecture with the support of overlay and network virtualization significantly more flexible features than the traditional Internet.
The workshop welcomes submissions from both researchers and practitioners that explore recent investigation on architectural and design issues as well as related implementation, experimentation or simulation efforts towards realization of overlay and network virtualization for the future internetworks.
Original papers not under consideration of another conference, workshop or journal are encouraged to submit via http://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=6644. Submissions should be written in English, adhere to the IEEE double-column format, no smaller than 10pt size, and no more than 6 pages in total.
